GH: 666- fixed nightly issues

• Tests added: Please use assert_type() to assert the type of any return value

I tried running this and it is failing because you need to merge with main that updates the version of numpy and pandas.

Done and the nightly test passes now

We're going to use #669 instead. It will simplify things going forward, meaning that we don't have to keep fixing the code to pass nightly. Thanks for the effort.
