Fixes a possible crash when audio devices get switched in Windows.
Also tests out a method of looking up the default for a config setting directly, for display in the UI. Could also be used for other metadata like min/max in the future. In the long run, want to generate much of the setting UI from metadata but that isn't gonna happen anytime soon.
Adds a missing translation string too.
