AI: Text Thread Bugs

Summary

• Drag and drop a folder does not paste/load any files of the folder in panel
• awkward file structure and folder structure showing up on the text thread

Description

Steps to trigger the problem:

Problem A : Files not loading / context not loading

1. Open a project with multiple folders
2. Drag and drop or /file [folder name] any folder except the parent/top level folder
3. Files will not load in the thread/panel

Problem B : Awkward file structure showing up on drag dropping entire top level folder

1. Open a project with multiple sub folders and files
2. Drag and drop the top level folder/ parent folder to the text thread in assistant/agent panel
3. Shows awkward file tree, [ wrong ]

Expected Behavior:

• Files should load in the panel
• Proper file tree should load
  Actual Behavior:
• No files appear under the folder
• .github is appended to all the folders

I believe that the first reported issue, using /file [FOLDER], doesn't have the same issue on MacOS, as shown in the video:

As for the second issue, do you mean that the file structure is awkward because we're repeating the top folder name? For example, looking at your screenshot, it reads:

The first issue is windows specific, but I will try to reproduce and confirm it by tomorrow on linux aswell!

The second issue is about it showing .github\crates

• when it is actually AxumBacked/crates
• Incorrect path, .github is in the same directory as crates, not nested
• Same goes for .github/src

• also, it changes all the paths inside the affected directories!

Here, .github is showing up instead of the actual parent Dir

• I was able to reproduce the wrong pathbug, in linux, and windows
• /file <path> bug is specific to windows

The /file [path] issue, not loading all the nested dir and files in the text thread is caused by mismatch between "\\" and "/", Typical windows path issues... [sigh]

• I fixed it locally by adding a simple

text.replace('\\', "/");

• Would this be a useful PR, or is there a preferred approach for handling cross-platform paths?
  I'll try to figure out the second issue meanwhile!

• The second issue is reproducible in Linux as well as Windows, should exist on mac aswell!

Problem

When a directory with a foldable structure (single-child chain like .github/workflows/) is processed, its folded path leaks into subsequent sibling directories, causing incorrect path displays.

How to Reproduce

1. Setup a project structure:

   Axum-Backend/
   ├── .github/
   │   └── workflows/        (foldable: single child)
   │       └── ci.yml
   ├── crates/               (NOT foldable: multiple children)
   │   ├── core/
   │   └── utils/
   └── src/
       └── main.rs
   

2. Run the file collection with a glob pattern like **/*

3. Observe incorrect output:

   ✅ Expected: Axum-Backend/crates
   ❌ Actual:   .github/crates
   
   ✅ Expected: Axum-Backend/src
   ❌ Actual:   .github/src
   
   

Root Cause

The folded_directory_names variable accumulates folded paths (e.g., .github/workflows) but never resets after being used. When the next sibling directory (crates) is processed:

1. .github/workflows/ is folded → folded_directory_names = ".github/workflows"
2. crates/ is encountered → checks if folded_directory_names.is_empty()
3. It's NOT empty (still contains .github), so it incorrectly uses the else branch
4. Outputs .github/crates instead of Axum-Backend/crates
