Thanks @dstansby. This looks good. Question for you - do you know if the Zarr CI is running mypy checks. I don't think it is but I could be missing them. Obviously, it would be nice to get those wired up if they aren't already. |

Ah, thank you! I'll open a separate issue for improving this then. I believe that pre-commit only runs its mypy checks on files with changes. This can lead to incomplete checks so I think we should have a broader check. |

I thought I'd try and make
mypya bit more strict to help typing across the library. This PR introduces three new mypy rules. The first two didn't need any changes to pass. The last one needed a bunch of type: ignore comments that are unused removing.I also removed the
python_versionandfollow_importsconfig options, as i don't think either are needed, andfollow_imports=silentprevents me from running mypy in vscode locally.TODO:
