This reverts commit 0a6a3b2, reversing changes made to b403227.

@bjosv unfortunately the PR broke a test and I am having to revert it. We will need to submit the PR again and then fix the broken test so it can be merged. It won't be available in 2.4.0.Beta1, but there is still time to make it available for 2.4.0.Beta2.
