What I did

Removed two leftover SONIC_USE_DOCKER_BUILDKIT references that no longer do anything:

  • slave.mk: $(info) print in build config summary
  • Makefile.work: passthrough to slave container

Why I did it

The functional code (export DOCKER_BUILDKIT=1/0) was removed in #23164 when dockerfiles were updated to use staged builds. These two lines were left behind — the variable is printed and passed around but never read.

Docker BuildKit has been the default since Docker 23.0 (Apr 2023), and all active build environments (bookworm/trixie slave, host) use Docker 24+.

History

Date PR Author What
Jun 2019 #3049 @stepanblyschak Created — opt-in export DOCKER_BUILDKIT=1, worked correctly
Apr 2023 #14405 @k-v1 Added explicit DOCKER_BUILDKIT=0 for Docker 23+ default change
May 2025 #19952 @sarcot Removed (staged builds replace --squash). Reverted.
Jul 2025 #23164 @sarcot Relanded — functional code removed, but $(info) print + Makefile.work passthrough left behind
Now This PR Remove the two dead lines

How to verify it

# Build config summary no longer prints SONIC_USE_DOCKER_BUILDKIT
make configure PLATFORM=vs
make target/sonic-vs.img.gz 2>&1 | grep BUILDKIT # should return nothing

Remove the leftover SONIC_USE_DOCKER_BUILDKIT references that no longer
do anything:

Looks good. Removing the dead passthrough and config print is safe now that BuildKit defaults are standard and the functional toggle is gone.

Remove the leftover SONIC_USE_DOCKER_BUILDKIT references that no longer
do anything:
- slave.mk: File: dir,	Node: Top	This is the top of the INFO tree

This (the Directory node) gives a menu of major topics.
Typing "q" exits, "H" lists all Info commands, "d" returns here,
  "h" gives a primer for first-timers,
"mEmacs<Return>" visits the Emacs manual, etc.

In Emacs, you can click mouse button 2 on a menu item or cross reference
  to select it.

The functional code (export DOCKER_BUILDKIT=1/0) was removed in sonic-net#23164
when dockerfiles were updated to use staged builds instead of --squash.
Docker BuildKit has been the default since Docker 23.0 (Apr 2023), and
all active build environments use Docker 24+. These two lines were just
dead code left over from the reland.

History:
- Jun 2019 sonic-net#3049: Created by @stepanblyschak (working, opt-in)
- Apr 2023 sonic-net#14405: Added explicit DOCKER_BUILDKIT=0 for Docker 23+
- Jul 2025 sonic-net#23164: Functional code removed (staged builds), but
File: dir,	Node: Top	This is the top of the INFO tree

This (the Directory node) gives a menu of major topics.
Typing "q" exits, "H" lists all Info commands, "d" returns here,
  "h" gives a primer for first-timers,
"mEmacs<Return>" visits the Emacs manual, etc.

In Emacs, you can click mouse button 2 on a menu item or cross reference
  to select it.
