Power On command turns power Off

I can do most any other operation that I try, but sending power on to the TV, or even just power, will power it off.

The following command will power off the TV:
C:\Program Files\Python310\Scripts\pyvizio.exe --ip=192.168.1.30 --device_type=tv --auth=Z3hcya3zvp power on

Other commands, like this, work perfectly
C:\Program Files\Python310\Scripts\pyvizio.exe --ip=192.168.1.30 --device_type=tv --auth=Z3hcya3zvp input hdmi3

"power" is an intentional toggle, judging from its output in bash. For my TV, "power on" doesn't shut it down.

Hey @dhess83 👋 I ran into the same problem as you are where no matter what you send to the TV be it ON or OFF it just toggles the current power state. I found a clever way to work around the issue until they fix this in code which honestly wouldn't be that hard, perhaps I could even check something in if they let me.

This command will only turn the TV on if it's off, otherwise it will do nothing.
pyvizio.exe --ip 192.168.1.226 --auth ******** get-power-state 2>&1 | findstr /c:"is on" && echo TV is already on || pyvizio.exe --ip 192.168.1.226 --auth ******** power toggle

This command will only turn the TV off if it's on, otherwise it will do nothing.
pyvizio.exe --ip 192.168.1.226 --auth Z2sy8urz0z get-power-state 2>&1 | findstr /c:"is off" && echo Already on || pyvizio.exe --ip 192.168.1.226 --auth Z2sy8urz0z power toggle

For some reason this program likes to output all of its console text to STDERR instead of STDOUT so it took me a minute to figure out why findstr wasn't working. These are the commands I use on my stream deck for powering my screens on and off with separate (on/off) buttons. This is also nice when I have one TV on and the others are off (I have 3 side by side for my PC displays) so having a command that turns on or off depending on state without just toggling them saves me a lot of hassle in regard to getting the proper configuration regardless of what state the screens start in. Hope you find this useful on some level and it would be awesome if one of the developers on this project added this logic to the code for existing ON/OFF options that are listed in the help instead of just blanket toggling. If they made the change in code they could more easily check the current power state of the TV internally without having to stack commands and process the screen output which is far more expensive. However, on modern hardware the cycles lost won't ever be missed! 🤣

Hey man! That's a more streamline version of the way I was doing it; I made a python script to grab the status output and act accordingly. I've never actually tried to put findstr logic into a command line before; I can see that being useful to me in the future so I'm going to hold on to that.

Thank you so much! You just made my day. Life has been rough lately due to health crap but I still try to livestream when I can. We just streamed on YouTube today doing a #TechTalk and had a lot of fun.

As for the findstr logic inline it's super useful. Allows you to do quick and dirty programs checks of output to standard IO ports and then run command trees with branding or logic. Honestly PowerShell has a way more elegant way to handle things but I am old school. Thanks for replying, honestly I enjoy the interaction. 👋
