First I'd like to say Cosmic DE is absolutely fantastic and I am very appreciative of the developers for putting in so much hard work, it has basically everything you'd want from a tiling desktop environment with added bonus of not having to build everything else yourself, so thank you!

On some other tiling window mangers (e.g. hyprland) there is an option to have Super-n e.g. Super-2 twice return to the previous workspace after switching to workspace 2.
E.g. if you were on workspace 1, pressing Super-2 takes you to workspace 2, then pressing it again takes you back again.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Binding a key to go 'back' a workspace (needs a script to keep track of the last workspace, also disrupts context when having to press a different button).
