| Hi, please try the below In the "Access" section of the sidebar, click Billing and plans. At the top of the page, under "Payment information", click Update payment method. If your account has existing billing information that you want to update, click Edit. Under "Billing information", complete the form, then click Save. |

| This is a data privacy issue so I suggest a couple options to fellow users: If you live in a state or country that has consumer privacy laws, submit a data removal request to microsoft here: If you live in a state that doesn't yet have consumer privacy laws, submit a complaint through your state consumer advocacy department. There's often a link on your state web site. |

| It is very simple to delete a payment method (if you used your credit card) For PayPal, you can revoke access for GitHub, that means GitHub still stores the PayPal payment method, but has no permission at all to actually make transactions with that. Once you need to use that PayPal again you just need to attach it again to your GitHub, so PayPal will provide GitHub a new permission token. Meanwhile credit card would disappear, PayPal remains displayed. Kinda weird and very unpleasant to have it implemented like that from Microsoft... I hate it. Everytime I use my card at ANY websites I immedieatly search for the option to delete it. |

| Same here guys. It's just so so annoying. I don't want to purchase any further services. I already got charged for github co-pilot after my free trial ended, because apparently, I couldn't cancel the subscription on time, since I was getting a server error on github billing & plans page. Later, got caught up in work and forgot that I had to remove it. Tried many times again last night, and encountered the same error. Finally got it removed but now I can't get rid of the billing info. I don't wanna get charged for any other services accidentally. But I'm stuck with this nonsense. I don't see a point in saving such sensitive info without the free will of a user. If any of the GitHub representatives are seeing this, please take this as constructive criticism and look into this issue, because it's just unethical and not worth the hustle. |

| Hey @RdKaiC and everyone who has reached out in this thread 👋🏾 At this time, you will need to reach out to the GitHub Support team via the Support page in order to have a payment method removed from your account. Please open a ticket with them :) |

| A tricky step is to change the payment method to Paypal and then go to Paypal to unlink github here: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/ Please note that when you're switching to Paypal, it may charge you |

| According to GitHub support, you need to not have any subscription services active, this includes any free marketplace apps you have signed up for. (Extra CI Services, etc.)
And once removed, you'll be able to remove your payment information.

I was able to finally remove my details after removing the marketplace apps, Azure and Circus CI for example. Hope this helps! |

Click Settings, then in the sidebar go to Billing & Licensing (sometimes labeled Billing and plans) Alternatively, go directly to:
You should see your saved credit/debit cards or PayPal listed, each with an Edit or ⋮ (three‑dots) button next to it
If your account is eligible (no active subscriptions), you should see a Remove or Delete option Click Remove, then confirm the deletion when prompted.
To fix this: Cancel all active subscriptions: In Billing & Licensing, look under Additional billing details (or similar); cancel any listed apps or services Wait a few hours (some users found a delay before the Remove button reappears) . Return and you should now see the Remove option. If the button still doesn’t appear after this, skip to Step 4.
Visit GitHub Support: Mention clearly that you want them to remove your payment method. It helps to note any GDPR or privacy concerns—some users reported this speeds up the process Cancel subscriptions first, then wait a bit. Then go back to Billing, click Edit → Remove. If still no luck, open a support ticket. Why is it so complicated? |
