Hi everyone,

I am a homeschooler who would like to have the GitHub education pack. My homeschool is registered with the state itself (NC) and we do have the official documentation for that. I also have a student ID card that was made specifically for my homeschool. I applied for GitHub education with my student ID card, but it was rejected. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried applying again using the official homeschool registration documentation instead of only the student ID card?

GitHub Education usually needs proof that you are currently enrolled as a student. Since homeschool documentation can vary by state, a student ID created by the homeschool may not always be accepted as sufficient proof.

I would recommend submitting the official registration documents from North Carolina, along with any additional proof of enrollment you have (for example, a transcript, enrollment letter, or other state-recognized documentation). If the application is rejected again, you can appeal the decision through the GitHub Education support page and explain that your homeschool is officially registered with the state.

It doesn’t seem I can take multiple pictures, or that’s what I would do. The documentation doesn’t include my name but instead validity of the school itself.

You may need a document that proves both that the homeschool is registered and that you are enrolled in it. An enrollment letter or similar document with your name, the homeschool name, and the date may help. You can also combine multiple pages into one PDF/image if needed.

Hi! Since your homeschool is officially registered and you have documentation and a student ID, I’d recommend reviewing GitHub Education’s current eligibility requirements and making sure the documentation clearly shows your enrollment and school status.

If your application was rejected despite providing valid documentation, you can try the verification process again and make sure the submitted document contains your name, institution/school name, and a current date where applicable.

I figured it out and got accepted!
Here is what I had to do:
Set school name as "Homeschool"
And as the proof, have proof the homeschool exists (in this case, documents from the state), and a written letter by the organizer for the school (in this case, my mom) with all the info on it, proving that I'm in the school.
