Lost all my commits progress when changed email

Hello, after removing my email that I used to do commits with, I lost all my track.
I read after that documentation, that adding it again and verifying it will solve the issue.
I did that. How ever sill 500+ commits are not shown in the green bar.

The contribution graph may take up to 24/48 hours to update. After that, your contributions should show up again.

When you change or remove the email associated with your commits, GitHub stops linking those commits to your profile unless the exact commit email is still listed and verified in your account settings.
If you’ve already re-added and verified the old email, but your contributions aren’t showing:

Make sure the email in each commit matches exactly (case-sensitive) the one now on your account.
Private repos don’t count toward the public green squares unless you’ve enabled “Include private contributions on my profile” in your profile settings.
It can take a few hours for the contribution graph to refresh after changes.
If all of the above are correct and the commits still don’t appear, you’ll need to contact GitHub Support — they can trigger a reindex of your contributions.

This usually comes down to how GitHub attributes commits. A few checks that almost always fix it:

1) Confirm the exact email on those old commits
Open one of your missing commits and add .patch to the URL. In the header you’ll see From: Name <email> — that exact email must be on your GitHub account.

2) Add & verify every matching address
Add the email(s) you find to Settings → Emails and verify them. If you ever used GitHub’s noreply address, add that too (there are two common formats: [email protected] and [email protected]). After adding, the contributions graph is rebuilt automatically.

3) Give it a little time
The graph can take up to 24 hours to refresh after the email is linked/verified.

4) Make sure the commits qualify to be counted
Commits only show on your graph if they’re in a standalone (non-fork) repo and landed in the default branch (or gh-pages). If they’re in a fork or only on a feature branch, they won’t count until merged into the default branch.

5) If they’re from private repos
Turn on Profile → Contribution settings → Private contributions so their counts appear (details stay anonymized).

6) Prevent it for future commits
Set your local Git to the email you want attributed:

git config --global user.email "[email protected]"

(or set per-repo without --global).

If after these steps and 24 hours the 500+ commits still don’t show, share a sample commit link (or the email shown in its .patch view) and we can pinpoint what’s blocking attribution.

The actual behavoir by github is that I need to readd email.
And the graph will only be updated if I push any commit to the repository.

Do you need to push a commit with the email you removed, or can it be with another one as long as the previously removed email is added back to the account?
I'm going through the same situation...

I lost all my commit badges on my repos because of this email change, even when I put it back, I have to contribute again to show up in the repo contribution, absolutely sucks.

@khatibomar, right, but does the email set in git config need to be the one that was removed, or can it be the new one as long as the old one has been added back to the account?

No just add it back to your account no need to setup git to be that email, just in GitHub account
