I use .nvmrc with lts/* and this just started a few moments ago.
It seems the linux binary for v14.16.1 doesn't exist.
I've tried v14.16.0 and that works fine.
Found '/home/ubuntu/bentobox/.nvmrc' with version <lts/*>
