The problem
When queuing a track with track number x > 51 from any Plex album using the Plex Connect provider, playback on a Chromecast device consistently starts the wrong track. Specifically, instead of playing track x, Chromecast Audio plays track
x + (x - 51)
Examples:
- Queuing track 52 plays track 53 (52 + (52 − 51) = 53)
- Queuing track 53 plays track 55 (53 + (53 − 51) = 55)
- Queuing track 60 plays track 69 (60 + (60 − 51) = 69)
From my logs:
- I attempted to play track 94 ("Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley) from the box set Beg, Scream, Shout
- Instead, Chromecast Audio played track 137 ("Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead" by The Marvelettes)
- This matches the formula: 94 + (94 − 51) = 137
The issue occurs with any album where the selected track number is greater than 51. Tracks ≤ 51 always play correctly. I have reproduced this behavior across at least three different albums. Using the Spotify Connect provider with the same Chromecast device does not exhibit this issue.
How to reproduce
- Configure the Plex Connect plugin to use a Chromecast Audio device as its Music Assistant player
- Open a Plex player (tested with Plex Web and Plexamp)
- From the Plex player, select that same Chromecast Audio device as the playback target
- Choose any album with more than 51 tracks
- Attempt to play a track with track number > 51
- Observe that the wrong track is played, offset by x - 51
