Describe the bug
During the start of the application in the terminal:
Could not create default EGL display: EGL_BAD_PARAMETER. Aborting...
A blank window with title Kanri appears.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. execute the appimage in terminal

Expected behavior
Application should open correctly.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

• OS: Fedora Linux 41 x86_64 fully updated (KDE/X11)
• App: kanri_0.8.1_amd64.AppImage

Additional context
Using version 0.8.0 the application starts correctly.

Thanks for reporting this issue. It seems to be some compatibility issue with the underlying tech (Tauri, some stuff with WebKit and its dependencies).

A few things you could try:

• Run the app with WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 from the terminal
• Check your version of webkit2gtk4.1 and try upgrading or downgrading

If the things above don't work, your best bet is probably to compile Kanri yourself (in case you reach this point, feel free to ask for help or instructions of you need it)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've tried setting the WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 before running the appimage and it didn't work.
The version of webkit2gtk4.1 is 2.48.1.

After doing additional research i've extracted the Appimage with the following command kanri_0.8.1_amd64.AppImage --appimage-extract and then run the ./squashfs-root/AppRun and it also didn't work.

I've tried running the AppImage extracted using strace --trace=file ./squashfs-root/AppRun and the final lines are:

I've tried the rpm edition and it works perfectly. Somehow the "packaging of appimage" is not working.
I've also compared the changes between both appimages version 0.8.0 and 0.8.1 and it seems to me the most relevant change is libwebkit2gtk going from 4.0 to 4.1.

That's very interesting, thanks for all the detailed insights.
I'm not quite sure, but maybe the AppImage does not get packaged correctly because I am running the GitHub Action on Ubuntu 22.04, which might be missing some more recent versions of some dependencies. I think for now I will just manually build it on one of my Linux machines and upload that to the release instead.

If you think its important to see if the building process is the culprit of the problem I can try to build the appImage in my Fedora 41. Is there any set of commands for building the appImage?

On Fedora, the usual build commands should generate both a .rpm and the AppImage. So it should be yarn generate to build the frontend and then yarn tauri build.
If you need more detailed instructions please let me know.

I was able to create a Dockerfile for reproducing the build in a fedora 41 environment and was able to build with success the AppImage.

The resulting AppImage is working correctly in my environment

This is the content of Dockerfile:

Nice, thanks. If I can't figure anything else I might use this for the AppImage builds on GitHub Actions, but I believe I just have to wait because there are some fixes on the Tauri side that should hopefully resolve these depdendency problems (at least partially).

Be aware that, due to some incompatibility with strip command I had to add the NO_STRIP=true and the binaries produced don't get stripped.
