For posterity, difference in implementation compared to intended design:

• Desired behavior of labeled nav links (team, tools, settings) when hovered or active was surprisingly difficult, where we basically want just the icons reacting and not the text labels. Became too much of a time sink so opted to preserve existing behavior for now.
