Not using Python decorators on tool functions improves testing on newer releases of FastMCP by making many details of GH-47 obsolete, i.e. the test suite does not need to learn async.

Walkthrough

The codebase refactors tool registration for the FastMCP application by moving tool logic into a new tool.py module. Functions for querying CrateDB and documentation are now imported and registered centrally. Tests and imports are updated accordingly, and the fastmcp dependency version range is broadened in the project configuration.

Changes

File(s) Change Summary
cratedb_mcp/main.py Refactored to import and register tools from tool.py instead of inline definitions and decorators.
cratedb_mcp/tool.py New module consolidating CrateDB query and documentation functions with validation and error handling.
tests/test_mcp.py Updated imports and patch targets to reference tool.py instead of __main__.py.
pyproject.toml Broadened fastmcp dependency version range from <2.7 to >=2.7,<2.10.

Poem

In the warren, code hops anew,
Tools now gathered, not scattered through—
From main they leap to tool.py’s den,
With imports neat and tests that pen.
Dependencies stretch their ears up tall,
A modular home for one and all!

    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai gather interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table. Additionally, render a pie chart showing the language distribution in the codebase.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and explain its main purpose.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.
    • @coderabbitai help me debug CodeRabbit configuration file.
