Sunset of extensions.coder.com (legacy Coder extension gallery)
Summary
The legacy Coder extension gallery at https://extensions.coder.com is being fully sunset. The DNS record will be removed on April 1st, 2026.
Background
code-server switched to Open-VSX as the default extension marketplace in v4.0.1 (2022). The legacy Coder gallery was deprecated at that time, and the FAQ noted the plan to fully migrate to Open-VSX. New extension submissions to the legacy gallery were also stopped at that point.
What this means for users
- No action needed for the vast majority of users — Open-VSX has been the default since v4.0.1.
- Users who explicitly configured
$EXTENSIONS_GALLERY to point at extensions.coder.com must update their configuration to use Open-VSX or another compatible gallery.
- The
EXTENSIONS_GALLERY env var and the custom marketplace mechanism remain fully supported — only the Coder-hosted endpoint is going away.
