Envelope generators (EGs) are used to control the evolution of a parameter over time, typically in response to a note-on event. An AHD EG consists of three stages:
- Attack: Time to reach peak value after the note is triggered
- Hold: Time that the peak level is held
- Release: Time to decay to zero after holding is over
