Question about Index version

Hello,

the tool you develope is create but i got some question about the Index file version.

1. Do you plan to stick to version 3 of the Index version or are you plaining to go higher at some point?
2. Is the version of the Index file stored in the Index file itself and if yes how could you possible check it?

Hi there,

1. Correct, there are no plans to change the index format beyond 3 for current/future planned features. Format version 3 stores raw 2-bit k-mers giving us freedom to change implementation details like hash table should we wish in future, without breaking the index format.
2. Yes, you can use deacon index info to dump index version, k, w and size:

% deacon index info panhuman-1.k31w15.idx
Index information:
  Format version: 3
  K-mer length (k): 31
  Window size (w): 15
  Distinct minimizer count: 409907949
Loaded index info in 5.47s

Edit: index info is sent to stdout, "Loaded index…" is sent to stderr.
