I think this makes sense - it'll give fans of the original an experience that matches their expectations, whilst still allowing a new spin on the game using the new play mode:

I don't mind the rapid fire at all for the reason you've mentioned. It makes playing games like Raiden II exhausting.

I guess what I could suggest as you tweak your creation is perhaps let the classic mode adhere as best as possible to the actual gameplay of the original (watching this video will certainly prove helpful in that regard) in terms of player behavior and enemy behavior (especially in terms of the increasing speed of the mines and central gun's ability to come to bear).

That would allow for you to continue with the game you've been making which, as a port, is allowed to have its own personality separate from and with your own take on the original which I've noticed primarily in the form of the many-shot rapid fire and barriers changing their rotation direction. If I could survive longer, I might have noticed more. I suppose overall, just keep in mind balance issues with a player ship capable of firing that many shots at once.

Just don't get me wrong. I am enjoying your creation.
