Deprecating sync v1 on the Atuin Hub #3050

@ellie

Description

@ellie

Last year, we released "sync v2".

https://blog.atuin.sh/release-v18/

It has been the default for a long time now, and we have seen much better sync performance, and far fewer sync-related issues.

We will be removing support for sync v1 on the atuin-hosted sync server. It will still be available for self-hosters, though will be removed from the code in a future release.

There is no reason to use sync v1 - it's slower, more expensive for servers, and less reliable. In order to use sync v2:

  1. Ensure you are running a recent version of Atuin (anything from the past 12-24 months works)
  2. Ensure you are using the default settings, or have
[sync]
records = true

in your config file
3. Run atuin sync
