Emacs like M-x prompt for unbound commands?

Hi,

I recently got around to configuring a set of keybinds for mle.
I don't plan on using everything mle has to offer (I don't know perl and I'm proud of that =P), so I didn't bind everything -- but sometimes it's nice to have a prompt to just be able to run an internal command.

Is there a command I can set so that I could do (e.g.) M-x cmd_set_opt syntax then be prompted with the usual menu for (in this case) syntax? If not, I think that would be a useful feature, especially since it's possible to write custom keymap modes for people who like modal editting.

I'd want to write some tests for it before merging.

On the subject of commands, if/when I embark on v2 of the editor, I'd like to make them more flexible. There are some ideas in #56.
