Bug: Remote state changed to mirror local state even if local state is older when using --dry-run or 'sync_list' entries

Describe the bug

I have a personal account synced to my Linux machine using this client.

I am not sure when it started happening, but now when I make edits remotely, they are overridden by the OneDrive client by mirroring the local state from my Linux machine. This also happens when the local state is older than the remote.

A simple example:

• I have renamed a directory from "Wikicasa" to "2023-2025 Wikicasa" using the OneDrive mobile app;
• OneDrive client reverted the change by deleting "2023-2025 Wikicasa" from the remote and reuploading "Wikicasa" to the remote.
  The same behavior applies both with live monitoring and one time sync.

How do you use 'onedrive'

I just sync some of my remote folders in OneDrive (currently only "Documenti" for testing) to my Linux machine.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

• Set up onedrive client to sync a OneDrive account
• Make changes to OneDrive files/folder (e.g. via the mobile or web application)
• OneDrive client reverts the changes

This sounds VERY odd ... and sounds like because you are running in --dry-run this could be a --dry-run only issue.

I test that scenario all the time - even more so with Shared Folders and renaming them .. and I know this does not happen.

Please can you:

• Ensure that you only have the correct systemd services running
• Please follow the Basic Troubleshooting Steps including building the client from 'master'
• Please provide a debug log as per the support requirements: https://github.com/abraunegg/onedrive/wiki/Generate-debug-log-for-support

I have tried to test this issue and cannot replicate when not using --dry-run .. however this is reproducible when using --dry-run

Hello @abraunegg thank you for taking interest in my report. Today I was not able to further test nor answer you, but yesterday I was observing the problem even without --dry-run. I used --dry-run just to prevent any data loss when testing for the bug report.

I will set up the client to mirror a test directory and execute new tests without --dry-run, then I will get back to you.

As per the evidence above, there is no issue when not using --dry-run

Since you are a Ubuntu user (Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS) .. if you have ever installed the 'onedrive' client from the Ubuntu Universe packages, you will have hidden systemd services running in the background that use a default application configuration against your data, running independently from your configuration that you think you are using.

This could account for your experience when not using --dry-run .. however as clearly demonstrated there is zero issue when not using --dry-run

Please double check how you installed the client .. and potentially go-back and revisit to ensure that all the Ubuntu installed mess is removed correctly.

Or consider moving to a better Linux platform - there are much better choices available to replace Ubuntu.

Installation

Hello, onedrive was installed using the opensuse PPA at https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/npreining:/debian-ubuntu-onedrive/xUbuntu_22.04/.

By the way, I installed Ubuntu since I had never used Linux on any machine of mine. Now I would probably choose another distro. Do you have any specific suggestions?

Due to a termination signal, internal processing stopped abruptly. The application will now exit in a unclean manner.

P.S.: sometimes I get that Microsoft Graph API error and I need to force stop the process as it does not seem to succeed even after several retries.

As you can see, the onedrive client sees the subdir2edit as if it was deleted locally and subdir2 as missing from the remote and thus deletes subdir2edit and reuploads subdir2. This of course is not what should happen.

Also, it seems that two subdir2 now exist. A normal directory with no file inside. A shared directory which I cannot rename or delete, with file inside. See the screenshots below.
