As discussed in the latest tools conference call. This is a proposal for a book list to be added to the website.

In general this seems like a good idea. How do you propose to maintain the 'last five years' ;-)

I would propose a complete review once a year to remove outdated books.
New books can be added anytime based on pull request that can be requested by anyone.

@pellico I would change three things:

  1. The title isn't quite right, in the sense that "paid books" could either mean "you can pay for a version of these books" or "these books are paywalled". In the case of Mara Bos' book of Atomics and Locks for example, one can pay for a version of it, but one doesn't have to.
  2. If there are books which are paywalled, I would either:
    • Put them in a separate table from the other books, or
    • Add a column to the right, to indicate whether there is a free copy of the book available.
  3. Regardless of point (2), I would add a link to their homepage if they have any. Perhaps by adding a link to the title, like this: [title](link)

@felix91gr Thanks for the comment. Below my comments

Item 1&2: Regarding the title I would propose Print Book. Is it fine to you ? I think this will solve also item 2.

Item 3. I see one issue with this proposal. Except very few books that has their own website with other resources, the others are just present in multiple book shop. Do you expect that I put the link of website page of the their publisher ?

@pellico nice, I think 1&2 would work well if addressed in that way :)

Re: point 3, nah, I'd say only link to them if there's a page to e.g. read the book online. It wouldn't be right for us to link to commercial sellers.

One thing I forgot to think about: if there is a link to download / read the book, it might be better to have that link have its own column. That way it's very obvious that the book can be accessed freely. It would be better in this way (I think) since not all folks will notice that the names sometimes have a clickable link.
