Rename gear file and associated DataFrame

Right now we are reading in the gear file and putting its contents into the DataFrame gear_df. However, we are only using gear_df as a mapping between transect_num and haul_num. For this reason, the name gear is not correct and it should be changed to something that is more appropriate.

@emiliom pinging you as you mentioned that you would come up with some possible names.

Did I? I don't remember 🙂 . But no matter. How about transect_vs_haul as the base name? Then, transect_vs_haul_df and transect_vs_haul_2019.xlsx (for the 2019 survey)

Is the mapping bidirectional? If it is unidirectional, seems better to use something like transect2haul_df? Alternatively I think a verbose name like transect_to_haul_mapping would be nice so that it is clear what that is.

Transect:haul is 1:many. So, haul_to_transect_mapping may be more appropriate.

Isn't it the other way around since they don't trawl in many transects and have to assign the associated hauls to those transects? Regardless, I like the explicit haul_to_transect_mapping the best as well!

Based on what I see in the input data, every haul is mapped to one transect, some transects are not matched with a haul (likely because they were not trawled, as you said), and some transects are mapped to >1 haul.

So: haul_to_transect_mapping still seems most appropriate.

Based on your investigation @emiliom I agree that haul_to_transect_mapping is the most appropriate. Just to clearly lay out the changes that will be done:

• gear_df --> haul_to_transect_mapping_df
• 2019_biodata_gear.xlsx --> haul_to_transect_mapping_2019.xlsx. To be very specific:
  • 2019_biodata_gear.xlsx --> haul_to_transect_mapping_2019.xlsx (this corresponds to the US section and I do not add US to the name because none of the other files have this added to them)
  • 2019_biodata_gear_CAN.xlsx --> haul_to_transect_mapping_2019_CAN.xlsx
