MY-REACT-PROJECT

A monorepo-style collection of small React projects / demos. This README lists each project included in the repository, how to run them locally, common troubleshooting tips, deployment notes, and contribution guidance.

NOTE: The short descriptions are placeholders based on folder names — please update each project's description to reflect what it actually does.

Project overview This repository contains many small React projects and demos (each in its own top-level folder). Each project is intended to be runnable independently. Typical structure for each project:

  • package.json
  • src/ (React source)
  • public/ or index.html (for Vite)
  • README.md (optional per-project README)

Projects (folders shown in the repository)

  • bg-changer — small demo to change background colors / gradients
  • course-page — a UI for a course / landing page
  • currency-converter — a currency conversion demo
  • dark — dark-mode demo or theme example
  • dash — lightweight dashboard example
  • doc-finder — document search / finder demo
  • lenis — demo possibly showing Lenis smooth-scrolling integration
  • macos — macOS-like UI demo
  • mind-pal — small app (mind / memory related tool)
  • minicontext — tiny example of React context usage
  • mood-scanner — mood detection / mood selector demo
  • personafusion — demo combining persona UI elements
  • react-bun — experiment using Bun or React with Bun
  • rou-dom — routing / DOM experiments (react-router demo)

How to run a single project

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. cd into the project folder you want to run, for example:
    • cd currency-converter
  3. Install dependencies:
    • npm install
    • or yarn
  4. Start the dev server:
    • If the project uses Create React App: npm start
    • If the project uses Vite: npm run dev
    • If the project uses another tool or custom script: check package.json for the "start", "dev" or "serve" script

Example:

  • cd bg-changer
  • npm install
  • npm start (or npm run dev)

How to run many projects at once (developer convenience)

  • Option A (manual): open multiple terminals and run each project separately.
  • Option B (monorepo tooling): if you want to manage them together, consider adding a root-level package.json and using:
    • npm workspaces
    • pnpm workspaces
    • yarn workspaces
    • Or use a tool like nx / Turborepo for task orchestration.
  • Option C (concurrently): add a root npm script using concurrently to run many cd project && npm start commands in parallel.

Detecting the project type (CRA / Vite / Bun / other)

  • Open the project's package.json:
    • If you see "react-scripts" -> Create React App (npm start)
    • If you see "vite" -> Vite (npm run dev)
    • If you see references to "bun" or a bun.lockb file -> Bun experiment
    • If you see custom scripts, follow them

Suggested per-project README (Place inside each project folder)

  • Short description of the project
  • Quick start (install + run commands)
  • Build command (npm run build)
  • Environment variables required
  • Known issues / notes

Environment variables

  • If a project uses environment variables, put them in a .env file in that project's folder.
  • For Create React App, env vars must start with REACT_APP_
  • For Vite, env vars use VITE_ prefix (e.g., VITE_API_URL)

Common troubleshooting

  • If "npm start" fails:
    • Check package.json scripts
    • Delete node_modules and reinstall: rm -rf node_modules package-lock.json && npm install
  • If port conflicts occur:
    • Use environment variable or change the port (PORT=3001 npm start)
  • CORS: if fetching remote APIs during dev, use a backend proxy or configure the backend for CORS

Testing

  • Check each project's package.json for test scripts (npm test).
  • Many small demos may not include tests. If you add tests, prefer Jest + React Testing Library.

Linting & formatting

  • Consider adding consistent tooling across projects:
    • ESLint (shared config)
    • Prettier
    • Husky + lint-staged for pre-commit checks

Deployment

  • Vercel / Netlify are ideal for small React projects.
    • Connect the repo, set the project's root (when deploying a single project from a monorepo, set the "root directory" in the deploy settings).
    • Build command: npm run build
    • Output directory: build (CRA) or dist (Vite)
  • GitHub Pages: can publish a single project from the repo using gh-pages; set the homepage and publishing script for that project only.
  • Docker: for more complex deployments, dockerize each project with a small static server (nginx or serve).

Example Vercel configuration (deploying a single project from monorepo):

  • Project settings:
    • Root Directory: currency-converter
    • Framework Preset: Create React App / Vite
    • Build Command: npm install && npm run build
    • Output Directory: build (CRA) or dist (Vite)

Contributing

  • If you want contributors:
    • Add a contribution guide: CONTRIBUTING.md
    • Add issue templates and PR templates
    • Suggest a branch strategy (feature/*)
    • Request tests for larger PRs

Repository maintenance recommendations

  • Add a top-level package.json if you want shared devDependencies (tooling, linting).
  • Optionally migrate to a monorepo manager (pnpm workspace, npm workspaces, or Turborepo) to simplify running scripts for multiple projects.
  • Add per-project README.md so visitors can quickly open a single project and run it.
