Valve 1 (switch, l1 endpoint)
The current state of this switch is in the published state under the state_l1 property (value is ON or OFF). To control this switch publish a message to topic zigbee2mqtt/FRIENDLY_NAME/set with payload {"state_l1": "ON"}, {"state_l1": "OFF"} or {"state_l1": "TOGGLE"}. To read the current state of this switch publish a message to topic zigbee2mqtt/FRIENDLY_NAME/get with payload {"state_l1": ""}

External definition

Device can no be toggled on or off with the mqtt payload {"state_l1": "ON"} or {"state_l1": "OFF"}.  It will receive the valve information but you can't toggle it via zigbee2mqtt

What does/doesn't work with the external definition?

I can confirm. Set state does not work. However feedback from device is correct.

Hi, I have the same problem. In version 2.5.1, recognition works fine, but the device doesn't function properly. I fixed it by adding a custom external converter from the end of this issue: #27591

I tried this suggestion but even though I now see it online it still doesn't work from HA, only from the physical keys.

I can confirm the same problem in 2.5.1, also no battery level. State is updated when pressing the buttons manually. Earlier version of z2m didn't recognize the device at all, now it does.

Everything works for me with the custom convertor mentioned here.
Valve on/off control and battery percentage. Also all propagated to HA.

Can you provide the same log when not using the external converter?

Tomorrow. There's a storm here tonight and I don't feel like having to go out into the storm to manually block the irrigation if it stays open.

Here's my log with the converter: https://pastebin.com/hKrvF8g2. Now, how do I remove the converter? I renamed the file, restarted z2m, and removed and re-added the device. Still shows as "Custom working dual water valve with _l1/_l2 naming"
