It would be nice if someone can have a look at this. The failed tests on Travis are on the development version of Julia and might be unrelated to this PR. |

Someone who actually understands the design of this package should review this PR, I just mechanically followed the recommendation from the deprecation warning without knowing whether this makes sense.
