The rewards for the ambassadors will vary by individual motivations. Rewards that ambassadors have expressed are that being an ambassador provides opportunity to build their internal network, enhance their communication and influence skills, build their knowledge further about InnerSource, build their presentation and speaking skills, and learn about other products and teams within their company.

There are many examples in the industry, using similar concepts. Sometimes used as part of the marketing activities of the company as well (i.e. to advertise for their products).

open-source champions amplify our internal open-source community. They are open-source experts and enthusiasts and help to share open-source knowledge between peers and colleagues. At the same time, they are sparring partners for questions related to improving the usage of open source at SAP. They all come from diverse backgrounds and many countries, and have specialized career paths, which makes the network even more valuable.

I interpret this as:

  • who can be an ambassadors: SAP employees
  • who do the ambassadors help: focus internally (i.e. they help other SAP employees)
  • category: ...
