Building my own demo of this -- had lots of misinterpretations initially. Anyhow, got a few things to work finally!

Editing a cell in the first row loses focus while typing, but editing in other rows works fine.

Here is how I got the custom cell to work:

Looks like "row" is actually the "cell" data.
