Brand new RS2423RP+ and RS1221RP+ not possible?

Hi there,

I started to set up 2 new NASes using Seagate IronWolf Pro 22 TB disks.
I managed to install the Synology Software by plugging only 1 HDD.
But them trying to create a pool (RAID5 and RAID6 respectively) it does not work.
Even after using the nice script and the drives showing up green and normal "Healthy" the process fails:
The system failed to create Storage Pool 1 with one or more drives (nas207: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Please try again.

Am I doing somthing wrong or is this still an issue?

I ordered 2x 13 disks for totally 2x2 NASes on 2 sites... sigh

Usually that error message is a result of 1 or more HDDs being DOA.

Oh wow!
Actually there was one DoA here, but it was not added to the NAS(es).
Smart test on the HDDs there (quick) was fine though.

So any idea here? I might at this point rather get a QNAP TS-1232PXU-RP-4G instead of buy new disks?

A QNAP won't help if one or more of the HDDs are faulty.

You need to find out which drive is faulty, and get it replaced under warranty. Run a full SMART test on each drive.

Wow, that seems to be the issue.
On each of the NASes I have one drive where I can't even show the SMART tab. Interesting fact:
They identify both only as ST22000NT001, without appendix

Edit:
Even trying to create RAID volumes without the faulty drive, just the remaining ones, it fails. But maybe I need to remove them, so travel to the NAS' location soon to come 💯

I would also check if the bay with the drive that only shows as ST22000NT001 are okay. e.g. Shut down the NAS, swap drive 1 and drive 2 then boot the NAS and see if the problem moved to bay 1 (which means the HDD is faulty) or if the problem stayed in bay 2 (which means it's Synology's backplane that has an issue).
