Untitled files in workfree lost after updating to v0.202.5

Summary

I had one Zed window open with a worktree. After updating to v0.202.5, Zed reopened without any of my untitled files.

Description

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create some untitled files in a worktree
2. Update to v0.202.5
3. Reload Zed

Expected Behavior: Zed keeps the untitled files
Actual Behavior: Untitled files are lost

Zed Version and System Specs

Zed: v0.202.5 (Zed)
OS: macOS 15.6.1
Memory: 16 GiB
Architecture: x86_64

I was able to recover the lost data by using Time Machine with #4985 (comment).

I checked the logs before and after the auto-update. Nothing remarkable.

I can reproduce.

1. Add "auto_update": false to zed settings.json
2. Download Zed Stable v0.202.5 and v0.201.9.
3. Remove your existing workspace dbs

   mv /Users/peter/Library/Application\ Support/Zed/db/0-global{,.backup}
   mv /Users/peter/Library/Application\ Support/Zed/db/0-stable{,.backup}
   

4. Open Zed v0.201.9
5. Open an existing folder in Zed
6. Create a new buffer and add something to it (do not save)
7. Quit Zed
8. Reopen v0.201.9 (confirm untitled buffer is correctly restored)
9. Quit Zed
10. Open Zed v0.202.5 (untitled buffer is missing)

Fuck me.. Yep - this ties back to this funny thing... age well 😅 - https://x.com/thorstenball/status/1823574598778081740 and #4985 (comment) (yeah I still don't save files - is it really too much to ask in 2025 that what's on your screen isn't ephemeral, the argument against reminds me of Word in the 90s hitting ctrl+s after every written sentence)

I just lost months of notes.. Hope backblaze recovery works as well as the time machine recovery method - thanks a lot for the link @injust

edit: @notpeter your downgrade works with my backed up db folder so everythings back minus a couple days. I'll keep auto_update false for now :P
