FTC Testing

A mentor from our FTC team filled out info and hasn't received anything. What is the expected time frame for when they will be starting?

Hi Joe, apologies for the radio silence. We do have the follow-up survey response from your team so no action needed at this time. Chinese New Year had a slightly larger than expected impact on timeline but we are still optimistic on shipping hardware by the end of the month.

We never received any direct communication since we submitted for the original, SC-only alpha testing. I assume that means we were not selected for this round either? The public communication was that the first round was ultimately decided to be FRC-only, and we didn't need to submit again for the FTC round, as our application would automatically be carried over; however, I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't have updated the application anyways with all the things we are looking to test on a full SC+MC setup.

(Also, to be honest, I am pretty bad at writing application letters and such, so despite my strong following/involvement with SC/WPILib-in-FTC stuff, I wonder if application just looked like we didn't really care that much/didn't plan to do much/etc...)

(Actually, now that I'm looking again, I can't even find like a confirmation email that our submission was received. I believe I would have sent it from our team email ([email protected]), but I don't see any confirmation email from the original form submission.)

The form not having any sort of confirmation turned on was a definite oversight. There is an application with that team number and your personal e-mail which was reviewed as part of the second round selection process. There were a very large number of applicants to select from and selection included criteria such as
• Geography (ensure geographic spread, especially among different spoken languages)
• Current programming language
• Team’s answer to “why should we be selected”

Applications closed well before the details of Motioncore were available so details on specific tests to be performed would have been unlikely to influence the application process as they would not have matched up with the final hardware configuration/capabilities.

Will there be additional FTC testing rounds, and if so, is there any idea when those might happen?

We support a lot of the teams in the SoCal region, so testing the new system would help us be much more prepared to help the region transition to the new hardware and software. (I really should have brought this up in the application, but I suspect I didn't...)
