Implementing Callouts and Cards and Accordian

I’m planning to add custom block components to Tiptap—specifically callouts (info, success, warning, tip), and later cards and accordions. Since Markdown doesn’t natively support these blocks, I’m looking for guidance on the cleanest long-term approach.

Overview of what I’m trying to do

• Use Tiptap to author content with callouts and other block components
• Persist the content as Markdown (for portability and static rendering)
• Render the same Markdown correctly on hosted/static sites

Current idea (high level)

• Represent callouts in Markdown using a custom tag like:

    <Callout type="success">
    Markdown content inside
    </Callout>

• On the rendering side, convert this into proper HTML blocks with styling
• Inner Markdown should remain untouched and render normally

Where I’m stuck

• I see a few possible approaches, but I’m unsure which is the recommended / safest:
• Regex-based preprocessing (simple, but feels fragile)
• AST / parser-level extensions (more robust, but more complex)

Alternative patterns (Markdown directives, fenced blocks, custom syntax, etc.)

I’ve experimented with both regex-style transforms and AST-style parsing, but I’m not fully confident I’m heading in the right direction—especially for scalability and nested content.

What I’m looking for

• Guidance on best practices for handling custom blocks like callouts in a Markdown-first setup with Tiptap
• Whether storing JSX-like tags in Markdown is acceptable, or if there’s a better pattern
• Any recommended alternatives used successfully in production (docs, blogs, knowledge bases)
