Hi! I love the article, but I cannot get it to work. As I follow along, things go fine until the end of step 1. I get an error about $file being an undefined variable. Any ideas why this error is coming up?

ERROR 2022/01/08 11:40:51 Failed to render pages: render of "home" failed: "C:\Users\George\Documents\Hugo Themes\quickstart\prebuild\layouts\index.html:8:34": execute of template failed: template: index.html:8:34: executing "index.html" at <$file.RelPermalink>: undefined variable: $file

I tried this in a fresh Hugo quickstart project and then tried to run what you have by cloning your repo. I couldn't get that to work either, even though I followed the directions to run npm install then run Hugo. So now I'm back to trying this in the clean project and struggling with it.

the main directory name switches from /prebuild to /remote at the very end of Step 1, is it on purpose?

That's anyway a great article, I've been searching hard for such an highlight, merci beaucoup

Hello @regisphilibert thanks a lot for your article, it's really helping to bypass one of the missing feature of hugo!
I did step 1 successfully and was able to generate md files with my entity (aka your 'monsters').
Nevertheless, I'm lost in step 2 to get this used (even when using the mount config). It's like all my prebuild files are not used and only the very minimal content available in my core pages (= things not in the prebuild (aka 'remote' in your code) folder)
Any hint where I should look at, to debug?

Hey @aurelienb ! It's not easy without the repo... so I can only suggest some basic checks.

Is your main project a Hugo Module? Have you hugo mod init it successfully resulting in the creation of a go.mod file?

Thx for your quick answer. It was not a module, so I endup creating a module with the main project (and it correctly generated a go.mod file) . Unfortunately it had no impact on my trouble. I will double check during the weekend the different steps of your tuto, I may missed a subtask somewhere.

Hi! and thank you so much for this awesome article, being able to generate data programmaticaly from API is amazing actually!
But I was wondering, if the content of the API changes, assuming a website rebuild, does the generated content change as well? Will another whole page be generated? Or once is generated it stays static and cannot be edited?
