Blocks without newline

What does it take to allow a block like e.g.

$$\mathcal{P}\exp \int A.dx$$

while the plugin expects the (block) delimiters on separate lines?

This is an opinionated question. To be honest I haven't thought about it. A quick thing you can do is, change MathJax.php#L163 to

if (preg_match('/^(' . preg_quote($begin) . ')[ ]*/', $line['text'], $matches)) {

and MathJax.php#L187 to

if (preg_match('/^(.*?)' . preg_quote($block['end']) . '[ ]*$/', $line['text'], $match)) {
  $block['element']['text'][] = $match[1];
