Hi GitHub Education Team,
​My student verification for the Student Developer Pack is repeatedly failing through the automated scanner due to OCR parsing issues with my legal name format and local non-Gregorian calendar dates.
​Issue 1 (Name): My document states SUMIT B. K. (with spaced initials), which matches my GitHub profile and billing settings, but the automated system flags it as a mismatch.
​Issue 2 (Date): My institution (Kanti Secondary School in Nepal) issues documents using the Bikram Sambat calendar (2083 B.S. = 2026 A.D.).
​I have captured a clear horizontal photo of my official Character Certificate alongside a handwritten date conversion note, but the automated OCR keeps rejecting it.

Hi GitHub Education Team,

I’m having difficulty completing verification for the GitHub Student Developer Pack because the automated verification system is unable to correctly read the information on my official student document.

There appear to be two issues:

1. Name formatting: My legal name appears on the document as SUMIT B. K., using spaced initials. This is my correct name and matches the information associated with my GitHub account, but the automated system appears to interpret the formatting incorrectly.

2. Date format: My institution, Kanti Secondary School in Nepal, uses the Bikram Sambat (B.S.) calendar on its official documents. The date therefore does not appear in the Gregorian format expected by the automated verification system.

I have a clear photo of my official Character Certificate. I have also included an explanatory conversion of the B.S. date to its Gregorian equivalent to make the date easier to understand.

Could you please assist with a manual review of my student verification or advise me on the correct way to submit documentation containing these name and date formats?

This is a known issue with the automated OCR system — it struggles with two things you're facing: spaced initials in names and non-Gregorian calendar dates. Totally not your fault.

Here's what to do:

The automated system won't work for your case, so you need to request a manual review. Go here:
👉 support.github.com → submit a ticket under GitHub Education

In your ticket, mention:

Your name format (SUMIT B. K.) matches your GitHub account exactly
Your school uses the Bikram Sambat calendar and include the conversion (2083 B.S. = 2026 A.D.)
Attach your Character Certificate photo + a handwritten or typed date conversion note

A human reviewer can approve what the automated scanner can't.

One tip: Write "Manual Review Request – OCR Failure" in your ticket subject line. It helps route it to the right team faster.
