Issues with student verification #178437

Hi @MattRWallace, The problem is probably due to the fact that a current date is required to verify your current student status. Therefore, you should try again in the spring of 2026, when your course actually begins. When you'll apply, make sure to fill in your billing info and GitHub profile with your full name exactly as it appears on your academic transcript. Then log out and log back into GitHub before reapplying, because the application system gets stuck in a loop even after the required information has been updated. If you still get rejected, submit the application using another device, such as a smartphone or another PC. If none of the above works, I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select " |

Hi everyone,
I am at a loss of how to complete this process. I've followed all the instructions given in the denial reasons and am not getting any change in result. My admissions letter contains every single bit of information that the denial reasons claim I am missing: First and last name exactly match my profile and billing information, letter is dated with full school name visible, letter clearly indicates "Location: ASU Online," letter clearly indicates my current class standing as undergraduate student and clearly indicates I am starting Spring 2026*.
* Perhaps I have to wait until classes start or some other milestone? I'm admitted and registered for classes. I did not see anything in the guidance referring to this and this is not a reason given for denial, so I don't think that's the problem but ... maybe?
I think that the problem is photo quality; I'm not sure that my webcam is capturing the text clearly. I tried applying from my phone since I can tell my phone camera where to focus, but there is no way to use the main camera. It defaults to the selfie camera, which is not only a worse camera, but is stupidly awkward to try to take a photo of something that is not yourself.
It sure would be nice to be able to upload the actual PDF document, but I'm sure that having users take a photo of a digital document displayed on another device is an incredible asset for determining the validity of an application. I'm sure there's a super technical reason why GitHub can't use a service like SheerID and instead need to roll their own, functionally useless feature for this. Disabling user support for this flow and directing users to a community forum is also an incredible choice for a feature that is so brittle.
