Currently required status checks must run and pass on the PR branch before you can enter the merge queue, then pass again running within the merge queue. This adds unnecessary delays - often a late change is added to the PR before merging, and waiting for the PR branch checks to finish doubles the wait and adds non-beneficial redundancy, since the merge queue will provide the safety net of ensuring the final commit passes checks. This has become a pain point in particular when we need to quickly merge a hotfix.
