Removing 2FA for login

Hello All,

I have a Github account that I use for personal and work-related purposes, which also has 2FA enabled on it. Up until now this was not an issue, however now my job requires me to work in an area where access to my phone is not allowed. I cannot log into Github anymore from work. Is there any way for me to A) remove 2FA from my account or B) enable email as a method for 2FA (currently it only allows a few options and emailing a code is not one of them).

Unfortunately, GitHub doesn’t currently support email-based 2FA codes for sign-in which is so annoying !!

1. You can try using a hardware security key (e.g. YubiKey). Just register a key with your GitHub account and keep it at your workplace — it works offline and doesn’t need your phone.

2. You can add a desktop passkey linked to your work laptop or desktop, if your computer supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, just sign in using your device’s built-in security (Touch ID, Windows Hello, etc.)

3. Save your recovery codes. Go to your GitHub account’s Settings → Password and authentication → Two-factor authentication and download your backup codes. You can print one out or securely store it at work for emergency access, might be a bit of a hassle though.
