Hi everyone,

I tried applying for the Student Developers Pack; however it got denied for the following reason:

Please complete your GitHub billing information with your full name exactly as it appears in your academic affiliation document. You do not have to add a payment method. You may need to log out and log back in to GitHub before reapplying. If you have only a single legal name, enter it in both the first and last name fields.

In all my official documents, my first and last name is mentioned. And I used the same for github, I even tried adding my middle name. It still didn't work, how do I solve this error?

To fix the GitHub Student Developer Pack denial, ensure that your GitHub billing information exactly matches the name on your academic document:

1. Go to GitHub Billing Settings.
2. Update your full name to match your student ID or school document exactly (including middle names, accents, and spacing).
3. If you have only one legal name, enter it in both "First name" and "Last name" fields.
4. Log out and log back in before reapplying.
5. Reapply at GitHub Education.

If it still fails, contact GitHub Education Support with your documents for manual review.

Here’s how you can fix it step-by-step:
1️⃣ Check your GitHub billing information

• Go to Settings → Billing and plans → Payment information

• Make sure:

  • First Name and Last Name match exactly as shown in your academic document (including capitalization, spaces, and any diacritics/accents).
  • If you have a middle name in your academic document, include it exactly the same way in the First Name field (e.g., First Middle).

2️⃣ Avoid nicknames or shortened forms

• If your document says "Jayanth Sattineni", don’t put "Jayanth S" or "Jayanth Kumar Sattineni" unless the document says exactly that.
• Even an extra space, missing hyphen, or different order can trigger a mismatch.

3️⃣ If you have one name only

• GitHub requires you to enter it in both the First Name and Last Name fields.

4️⃣ Log out and back in before reapplying

• GitHub’s system sometimes caches your old billing info.
• After saving the correct info, log out, clear cache/cookies, log in again, and reapply.

5️⃣ If it still fails

• Contact GitHub Education support: https://support.github.com/contact

• Attach a screenshot of:

  • Your billing information page (names only)
  • Your academic document (blur out ID numbers if you want)

• Explain that the names match exactly and you’ve already updated billing info.
