HELP: github-pages deploys all files.. except index.html (and 404.html)

Discussion Details

build and deploy actions run correctly, artifact looks correct (including index.html and 404.html).
Files from the build can be accessed on the url (e.g. kobo.png) but the github-pages url returns a 404 on index.html and 404.html.

things I've tried (including a round with copilot, which concluded with: ask support ;-)

• switching public/private/public
• added .no_jekyll
• check github_actions for build*deploy
• check logs and artifacts (screenshot of contents of artifact.tar :

I'm out of ideas... can someone help?

closing this for now, i believe the deploy is actually correct but it is a react routing problem that's causing the 404. i.e. it's not a real HTTP server file not fond 404 .
