📣 Student/Teacher Verification Has Moved – Now in Your User Settings! #156395

We would like to inform you that the student/teacher verification process has been relocated to a new section within your user settings, right next to your billing and plans information. 
By moving the verification process to your settings page it makes it easier to access, manage, and track everything related to your account in one place. What’s new in this update:
Your application has been received and is currently under review. You’ll see updates here as it moves through each stage of the verification process. 
If your application is rejected, you’ll now see clear reasons and tips for what to fix before trying again. Important Your academic benefits will be activated within 72 hours after successful verification. 🕒
No action required for verified usersIf you have already completed verification, no further action is required. Need Help or Noticed a Bug?If you run into any issues or spot a bug during the updated verification process, let us know in the comments — your feedback helps us make things better for everyone. If you need support with the application steps themselves, feel free to start a new discussion thread. Our team and community members are always around to help you out. |

@kfaizi I found a way to bypass this. You can enable the button by doing the following:

Hi! I got the same question like you, I reapplied today. It shows I have been verified already. They will give me benefits soon. I guess you can try to reapply to see your status as well. |

Hey, I got access to the github education benefits yesterday and I am already using it. I applied April 12 and got access yesterday April 15 (PH Time) exactly 72 hours. I did not need to reapply for the benefits so you should just wait. |

Hi! I'm experiencing exactly the same issue as you. My application was approved a few days ago, but when I try to open the "Education Benefits" details, it gets stuck loading and never shows the confirmation or the Copilot Pro redemption link. Were you able to fix it? Was it just a temporary glitch, or did you have to contact support or do something specific to solve it? Thanks in advance! |

Is this requiring students receive an email to their school email address? If so, is there another alternate way of them verifying? Our students’ accounts have email disabled, so they cannot receive an email code. |

In regards to the issues found while using the benefits, who do I contact? I've already created a ticket a couple of days ago regarding an issue with it and have not had a reply from github support. also, does anyone know where to see the information regarding our application? I'm trying to see when I'll need to reapply. |

Hey! My governmentally issued student ID is 2-sided. On the front it has my name, date of birth and ID number and on the backside it shows the date of validity and the name of my school (among other info). In the current state of the system, it's not possible to upload multiple sides nor to upload pictures from my gallery. I've tried taking a picture of the backside only, but photos taken with both my front camera and back camera turned out to be blurry. I've even tried with my webcam but it produced an even worse image. After many failed attempts, I've submitted a barely readable photo and it got rejected almost instantly. Could you make uploading documents permitted or at least have the option to verify students through other channels? It would be urgent for my JetBrains subscription. |

Thank you for your reply! I tried taking a picture of 2 of my documents, one being my student identity card and the other being an official dated exam notifier with my school's stamp. I took one photo with my front and one with my back camera, but no matter what, they turned out to be unreadably blurry. I cleared the cameras beforehand and they work perfectly fine in other apps. What could you recommend? |

Yeah, you will definitely need to show your personal details - key to the application. I would suggest having a look at I need to translate my evidence. What can I do? which suggests that you show one side of your Student ID along side your School Details (you can perhaps write it down in bigger characters for easier visibility). |

PSA - If you:
Then: YOU SHOULD MOVE YOUR DNS OFF GITHUB PAGES IMMEDIATELY, UNTIL YOUR RENEWAL GOES THROUGH Otherwise, it is possible your domain will redirect to a SPAM website while GH Pages is offline. On my domain, this was some kind of online casino website based in India. I have absolutely no idea how this is technically possible, but this happened to my domain. I am not sure if this is due to some kind of bug or security issue, but if anyone knows the right place to file a ticket, please let me know. I cannot imagine this kind of redirect being intended behavior. |

Yes, my domain has been verified for years. There was no setup problem. What happened was my edu discount expired, and GitHub took my website offline, because it was built from a private repository rather than a public one. GitHub pages is only supported for public repositories unless on a pro account. At this point, my domain redirected to a SPAM website. |

The issue with Education Benefits Application – Revoked Status “There are outstanding issues with your GitHub account. Please contact GitHub Support.” When I checked my application status, it showed Revoked, just one day after submission. I’m not sure what caused this and would appreciate your guidance on how to resolve any issues or what steps I should take to reapply successfully. Help! I have applied twice now and been denied both times. I attend UC Berkeley (which is why I have a Berkeley.edu email address), and tried uploading a photo of my card - but our cards don't contain a date, which may be why the first trial was denied. So, I tried again, taking a photo of my screen - with my id next to it - showing my registration page, with the same photo as student id, and classes registered for Fall 2025. And I just got rejected again. Anyone have ideas about how else to PROVE THAT I AM A STUDENT? Thank you in advance!! |

Unfortunately, it appears that GitHub doesn't care that their new GitHub Education application process is completely broken, as evidenced by their lack of response to anyone in this and other forum threads for the past several months. To make matters worse, their support ticket system is also broken. They don't have appropriate GitHub education support ticket categories to handle the problems, and when you attempt to report the broken application process, the support bot just gaslights you and blocks you from submitting tickets. |

I have tried four times now to get approval for my education account. I get denied every time. It’s bizarre that you can’t upload a document and have to take a photo… I’ve tried a photo of my id (no date on UC Berkeley id), photo of id plus screen showing registration, photo of screen showing transcript… I don’t know what else to do. I AM A STUDENT. Please help!!! |

Hi. It's been more than 3 weeks days since I applied for GitHub education renewal. The main problem is that I cannot see my 'existing' application. education.github.com says my request is approved and benefits are underway. But my home page and billing section both ask for new application which I am unable to submit. I have attached images of the issue. I started a discussion on GitHub community but no benefit from that as well. |

OK after 5 tries I finally succeeded! The winning ticket was a screenshot
