Show/hide menu erases/shifts output #899

Description

What version of Codex is running?

0.1.2504301751

Which model were you using?

o4-mini

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 24.4.0 arm64 arm

What steps can reproduce the bug?

This is maybe not so much a bug, but a weirdness. Closing the command panel leaves the UI in a state where, admittedly it does not lose content from the conversation, but it is a bit disorienting because the input box is no longer anchored to the bottom of the screen.

First, talk to Codex and get enough output to fill your terminal window:

Hit / to trigger the command pane:

Choose /model:

Hmm, this is not helpful. Hit Esc to exit:

As you can see, the last line in the conversation history is still visible (and you can scroll back to it), but there is also now this void at the bottom of the screen and the input box is not anchored to the bottom as it was before. The scrollbar for iTerm is at the bottom, though.

What is the expected behavior?

Given the current UX of Codex, I'm not sure. One option might be to show the command pane above the input box instead of below, temporarily drawing over the most recent lines of the conversation.

What do you see instead?
