Try this as a plugin.

Description: Remove duplicate entries from nnn's history file, preserving original order.

Notes: If running nnn on Android Termux, substitute '/dev/null' for something like '$HOME/null'.

Not sure if running any commands on the history file will work when nnn is running, as the file is overwritten from memory when nnn closes.

Nope, this was suggested for running outside nnn.

So a plugin is not the solution? Probably best to put the code into a shell script and run it as a cronjob.

Plugin is fine. I just suggested an alternative from outside nnn.

The above code when run as a plugin, does clean the history file, preserving the original order, but is only good for the current session. As soon as nnn is closed, the history file gets overwritten by the copy in memory, which has duplicate entries.
