line plot time series

I am having some trouble setting the min for the x-axis with the time value set to True. I know it can be done because I can do it in the demo and I can set my axis limits to a given time period, but I have not yet found how to set the min so that i can set the lock_min flag.

Here are my time calculations:

        epoch = datetime.datetime.utcfromtimestamp(0)
        now = (datetime.datetime.now() - epoch).total_seconds()
        new_date = datetime.datetime.now() + relativedelta(years=10)
        later = (new_date - epoch).total_seconds() 

I would like to lock x to 'now'

Also, is there a way to zoom in as closely as desired, but not be allowed to zoom out past a certain level?
