Description
Add the ability to hide or show all desktop icons through the right-click context menu, similar to functionality found in modern desktop operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
Current Behavior
- Desktop icons are always visible
- No option to hide icons from view
- Desktop cannot be cleared for a clean look
Expected Behavior
Users should be able to:
- Right-click on empty desktop area
- Select "Hide Desktop Icons" or "Show Desktop Icons" from context menu
- Toggle visibility state that persists across sessions
- Access files normally through other means (file explorer, search) while icons are hidden
Use Cases
- Clean workspace: Temporarily hide icons for presentations or screenshots
- Distraction-free: Reduce visual clutter while working
- Wallpaper showcase: Better view of desktop background
- Professional settings: Clean desktop appearance for screen sharing
Proposed Solution
Add context menu option that:
- Appears in desktop right-click menu
- Toggles between "Show Desktop Icons" and "Hide Desktop Icons"
- Saves preference to user settings
- Maintains icon positions when shown again
Steps to Test
- Right-click on empty desktop area
- Select "Hide Desktop Icons" from context menu
- All desktop icons disappear
- Right-click again and select "Show Desktop Icons"
- Icons reappear in original positions
