Escape Discord Markdown

I heavily work with embeds and a discord bot that handles X (Twitter) and Bluesky posts, but Discord applies its markdown language where ever possible. A Twitter handle, for example, with underscores in their name will be applied italics. I'd rather have the text be left alone and have the markdown escaped.

Discordgo doesn't yet have a function that does this i.e. discordgo.Escape() and I'm wondering if this can be a good function to have or if there are any plans in the future for this.

Couldn't you just check for * or __ and just put a \ before it to escape it?

You can do \* or \\ to escape formatting.

Although I could be misunderstanding the idea
