Forks that support 1.12.2 or fix the cascading worldgen lag bug

Hello, I am stuck using 1.12.2 since a lot of mods' creators have deprecated their mods at that version, BYG is causing severe lag with cascading worldgen lag logs constantly spammed.
From past issues regarding this very problem (#53 #860) I see that the version isn't actively supported, is there any known fork or continuation per se that supports the version, or just fixes the issue on hand?
Or, worst case, is there any known way to fix this? I don't know any java but if patching the mod will spare the several hours me and my friends have put into a server, it might be worth it.
