column dragging via mouse click-and-release is required

as known for MRT table column dragging:
MRT provides built-in drag-and-drop (DnD) function for column reordering, which is triggered by a drag handle icon, is not user friendly and it also take extra space for column size (width) it's not efficient when there are a lot of columns in one table. Directly replacing the drag handle with a click-and-release mechanism using standard MRT props is not possible.

I strongly reaccommodate MRT team can dev & provide options to use mouse click-move-and-release on changing column order
